Friends of Marshall Kipp Internet Business Development Proposal
Prepared by Marshall Kipp and Peter Dudek
With Your Project, YOU are Building Your Own "Field of Dreams."
Now, let's "go the distance" and get people to see it.
In the movie "Field of Dreams" the character played by Kevin Costner builds a baseball field in the middle of a corn field in Iowa. People didn't understand. But he believed that if he built it, people would come.
And that is exactly what you are doing with Your Project. Now we need use the Internet and ESPECIALLY "Viral Videos" to bring the world to your doors!
But how do we do that? The Internet is like the Wild, Wild West...with SHARKS! It's a place where anyone and everyone has a chance to achieve greatness. But people are starting to figure it out and competition is getting fierce. Staying on top of the daily Internet changes is hard, but staying AHEAD OF THE GAME is the real challenge.
The key to doing this is to have an aggressive Internet Business Development Plan that uses ALL the relevant tools in a concerted and systematic Implementation Strategy.
First and Foremost, Maximum Optimization of YouTube Needs to be The Main Focus Point.
It's no secret that YouTube is where music careers are being made and sustained. But there are right ways and wrong ways to use YouTube.
EVERYBODY on YouTube wants to get a "Viral Video" going on their channel. "Going Viral" means Popularity, Success, Money.
But "going viral" is not easy these days. All the early viral video strategies have been done to death.
However, if you understand the psychology behind the phenomenon of viral videos, you can use that understanding to give yourself the best chance of "going viral."
Our First YouTube Strategy for You is to Produce a Portfolio of Potential Viral Videos Using FOUR of the Most Powerful Viral Elements: Humor, Music, Covers & Titles
(But we plan the videos out ahead of time with a release calendar that is strategic.)
We also suggest using a 5th & 6th Viral Video Element. We'll tell you about those later...
Our Plan for the Production and Release of Viral YouTube Videos...
VIRAL VIDEO ELEMENT - HUMOR
First let's talk about humor. People love to laugh. They want an escape. So they go to YouTube and watch funny cat videos.
Funny videos get shared far and wide and they get shared FAST. Really funny stuff goes viral.
But using humor without capturing a lasting engagement will do little for Your Project. - Not only do we need humor on our side, we need to use it in a way that makes people look to us for more, and that means THEY SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL. We want our humor to have one goal: Get Subscribers.
One way to do that is to use the final moments of the funny video to do what works in television, promote the next show or the next segment to keep the audience. "Coming up after the break..." Or, "On the next episode of..."
We do the same thing. At the end of the video, we give previews or a tease about the next funny video we are producing. Then we encourage them to subscribe so they don't miss out.
This is why we need a strategic production plan and release calendar.
VIRAL VIDEO ELEMENT - MUSIC
There are a lot of Categories on YouTube, but for going viral FAST, Music is the Undisputed Heavyweight.
Click here NOW to see just HOW powerful... (hint: the Billion View Videos are Music Videos)
Next, check out this list of the Top 100 YouTube Channels with the most subscribers here. There are a LOT of music channels on that list.
VIRAL VIDEO ELEMENT - COVERS
Doing a good cover of a popular song on YouTube is a great and proven way to go viral. Let's look at one example.
Taylor Swift's Viral Video for her song "Shake it Off" is one of the BILLION VIEWS videos on YouTube. Here's the original video.
"Shake it Off" has OVER A BILLION views so far. But check this out....
Here are some COVERS of "Shake it Off" by fans along with view counts...
This cover has 66,530,206 views and counting...
This cover has 14,426,183 views and counting...
This cover has 9,772,910 views and counting...
These FANS are becoming YouTube Stars by Piggy-Backing on Popular Music Videos with Covers.
Clearly, doing a Quality Cover of a Popular Video is a SUPER POWERFUL Viral Video Strategy.
And an important part of that strategy is to have UP-TO-THE-MINUTE industry knowledge about songs in the works by A-List Artists and be ready to quickly create and upload a Quality Cover Video and maximize the "Piggy-Back" effect while the original video is experiencing its own initial viral upswing.
In other words, we want to JUMP IN EARLY and CREATE COVER VIDEOS FAST when a new big video is hitting YouTube.
That being said...
This can also work for "classic" songs that are seeing a resurgence in popularity.
AC/DC's Official "Thunderstruck" Video has OVER 112,651,132 views so far...
Here are some COVERS of "Thunderstruck" making it big...
48,549,323 views...using TALENT & HUMOR
17,490,353 views...using TALENT & HUMOR
3,010,950 views with a LAME video concept!
New Songs, Old Songs, makes little difference. What matters is songs RISING IN POPULARITY and doing a Quality Cover of the Song - and using HUMOR helps a lot.
Another phenomenon that happens with "Classic" songs is IF THE COVER IS GOOD ENOUGH, the COVER can boost the resurgence in popularity of the ORIGINAL song! This is why smart artists WELCOME covers.
VIRAL VIDEO ELEMENT - TITLES
YouTube is a video hosting site, a social media site, but most people don't know that YouTube is the SECOND MOST POPULAR SEARCH ENGINE.
The most popular search engine? Google.com of course.
And what is the most important way to interact with search engines?
KEYWORDS!
When people are in YouTube or in Google looking for a music video, they type very consistently important keywords: ARTIST NAME, SONG TITLE. (Also important is the keyword "cover". People like covers.)
It is CRITICALLY important to use proper file naming and proper completion of all the fields in the video upload process with strategic keywords, tags, outbound URL links and description text.
Doing this is called "SEO" (Search Engine Optimization) and it is a highly competitive endeavor. Everyone wants to be on the first page of Google and YouTube.
So Here is Our First Suggested YouTube Strategy for Your Project
-
Create a portfolio of Cover Song Videos.
Obviously, your project has super talented musicians. And with the State-of-the-Art Audio and Video Facilities we have at Roseland Studios, you will have all the technology you'll need to produce QUALITY Covers of Popular Music Videos. -
Maximize the Viral Potential of the Cover Videos.
By using the FOUR Viral Video Elements we outlined above, especially Humor (and also incorporating the 5th & 6th Viral Video Elements we will tell you about later) you can give yourselves the BEST SHOT at putting out a consistent stream of viral videos. -
Once we have the first few videos "in the can", a video production schedule and a release calendar, we launch.
The key to creating buzz and to going viral for a new YouTube channel is to be strategic and have an amazing first impression followed up with a killer second and third and fourth video. How many bands had a great first album followed by a flop? Lots. With the strategic planning and systematic release dates I'm suggesting for your Viral Videos, we can avoid that problem.
How do we use Viral YouTube Videos to Promote Your Project?
You've set the scene. You've captured your visitors' attention. You've related to them and entertained them. And through it all, your fans have discovered that there is some seriously professional production value behind the funny madness.
We keep one thing in mind: Building Your "Rabid" Fan Base is the goal.
Getting people to watch and enjoy your videos is one thing. But that doesn't put much money in the bank.
In order to build a "Rabid" Fan Base, you need to communicate with your fans. You need to understand that the most important asset you can build is your LIST.
And you need to foster a VERY close and ACTIVE Relationship with your list.
Where's the Money? In the LIST.
One of the most famous sentences among Internet Experts is "The Money is in the List." And the list they're talking about is an email list.
If you want to maximize the amount of money you can earn from your project, you need to BUILD and NURTURE your List. The importance of this CANNOT be overstated.
The best way to grow a large and lucrative Email List (by far) is:
- Develop a System to Capture Your Fans' Email Addresses
- Build an Automated Email Followup System to Help Build and Maintain a Close Relationship with Your List
- Do Occasional and Timely Email Broadcasts that are Separate and Apart from the Automated Email Campaigns.
- Entice your Fans to Spend Money using the CCCP model. (We will explain more about this when we are working together.)
People don't usually buy things the first time they see them. The masses of people usually need about 7 exposures to an offer or a product before they are ready to make a buying decision.
Of course, Alpha-Type People are the exception. But as a rule, normal people need to see an offer multiple times.
Not only that, people's behaviors are different. Some people won't even open some emails. Some people open the emails, but don't click the video link inside. Some people will click the link but only watch part of the video.
The key to maximizing revenues for Your Project is to have multiple email follow-up sequences to funnel people into depending upon their behaviors.
We want to always be congruent with the conversations going on in their minds while we guide them down the path to the decision to spend the money on whatever you offer them - music downloads, fan merchandise, concert tickets, etc. And since there will be lots of different types of people, there will need to be different types of Automated Follow-up Sequences.
Here is a flowchart of what a typical Automated Follow-up Sequence looks like.
Of course, we would create a custom Automated Follow-up system for Your Project focused on your goals.
FYI - The best technology for creating automated follow-up sequences is Infusionsoft. At $2,000 setup and $379/month it is the most expensive, but it's the best. (Ontraport is cheaper, but also a very good choice.)
Our First Facebook Strategy for Your Project: Ads to Kickstart Viral Sharing, Building Custom & Similar Audiences
Getting People to Come, aka TRAFFIC...
The whole point about viral videos is that people share links with their friends and you get enormous amounts of free traffic. But sometimes you need to "prime the pump" to get things started.
And that means taking advantage of paid traffic. In the case of Your Project, Facebook is probably the best source of paid traffic.
Here's how we use Facebook advertising to get the ball rolling on our Viral Videos...
Using Facebook PPC Traffic to Promote Videos
Facebook collects data directly from its users and amalgamates it with big data (online and offline) from other companies to come up with over 2,000 data points on each and every user!
They make a lot of those data points available to advertisers so that we can target audiences to build our prospect lists.
Here is a look inside Facebook's Ad Manager. In this short video, my partner Peter Dudek is showing how to find the perfect audiences for viral videos, and then he creates an audience of people on Facebook who might be interested in Roseland Studios. We're including this video to you so you can look over our shoulders and get an idea of how we could use Facebook to promote YOUR Project.
Once we have the video we want to promote and determine the audience to promote it to, we simply create an ad set on Facebook and drive viewers to the video.
LATER in this process, AFTER we have started attracting your Fans and building your List, we highly recommend that we incorporate RETARGETING into the marketing mix.
Here is a short video explaining the power of RETARGETING (aka Remarketing):
(NOTE: This video is "corny" but has good info.)
There are many Retargeting services. Facebook and Google both offer it as well as several 3rd parties. We can get deeper into this subject later.
Promoting Your Original Songs...
We are aware that you are very serious (in a fun way) about your songwriting.
And you've got some amazing songs the world needs to hear.
Here's how we transition to that phase of the plan...
Using Traffic to Covers to Promote Originals
We've established that the best chance to get a lot of viral video traffic is to produce quality (humorous) covers of popular music videos.
By strategically setting up the YouTube Channel, you can maximize the promotion of your original songs.
Let's look at an example of a YouTube Channel that does a good job of promoting other videos on their channel - keeping the traffic INSIDE their channel instead of bouncing out to other people's channels.
(It's all about Grabbing Eyeballs and keeping them focused on YOU.)
NOTE: This is another video where my partner Peter was explaining some concepts for Roseland Studios. But the information is 100% relevant to YOUR project...
After seeing the raw talent you have in Your Project, we are absolutely convinced that we can help you do 3 things...
- Help You Become a Rising YouTube Star.
- Help you Develop Your Email List of "Rabid" Fans.
- Help you Maximize the Revenues from Your List.
NOTE from Marshall: "Brian, In my personal opinion in this day and age, this would be the most logical and affordable way to proceed with your project."
Let's have a conversation...
